From those who distribute our comfort items

Thank you for the chemo caps. You’ve touched my heart and I cannot thank you enough. God bless you mightily for all you do for those who need that extra comfort going through their battle with cancer. Thank you sweet ladies once again — God’s Love,  Sis. K. Ortega

Please accept my deepest gratitude for your gift of chemo caps, blankets and neck rolls to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan that were received in May. Your gift undoubtedly brought joy to the lives of the children and families we serve. It is because of generosity like yours that we are able to eliminate some of the fear and uncertainty that comes with stays in the hospital. Whether it is toys, games, blankets or clothes, gifts from our community bring a level of comfort to the lives of chidren in our care. With more than 250,000 patient visits, surgeries and hospital stays each year, your support helps us here at Children’s provide a positive link between the inactivity and anxiety of sickness and the normalcy of childhood. Your thoughtful gift really makes a difference. Thank you again for your kindness. Your support will help the children that we care for live happier and healthier lives. — Erin O’Mara,  Manager, Community Relations and Volunteer Services

To all involved in Knit Michigan, On behalf of the UM Cancer Center, thank you for the recent donation of WONDERFUL handmade comfort items! The patients are enjoying your creations and appreciate you thinking of them. Thanks for all you do, and best wishes for Knit Michigan 2010! Mary McCully

I would like to thank each and every one of you for your steadfast dedication and commitment in providing our Oncology patients with hats and blankets. It means so much to the women who are going through chemotherapy and losing their hair. Many times they do not have time to get out to the store for hats and wigs before they begin to lose their hair. They all truly appreciated the time and effort. They are so amazed by the beautifully colored hats and the wide variety to choose from. We had two patients that had a hat party in their room with your hats. They tried on many hats, looking in the mirror, laughing and giggling giving compliments to each other. The enjoyment of “shopping” for a new hat made their day. You have made a difference in so many patients’ lives!!! — Cheryl Bartley,  Oncology Nurse Clinician,  8 South Oncology

Thank you for your kind donation. The compassion that is shown through your gift is invaluable. The items that Knit Michigan members continue to donate to the Cancer Resource Center at Beaumont Hospital-Royal Oak will make a great difference in the lives of our patients.

Your gift of hats will help patients stay warm and remember that others are thinking of them and wishing them well during this trying time. The blankets and stuffed animals were delivered to the Pediatric Department. They will bring comfort to our younger patients. The Knitted Knockers will be given to women in need through our Breast Care Center.

We are so pleased to accept your gifts and acknowledge your generosity. You are deeply appreciated. — Beaumont Cancer Resource Center.

From family members

I am sitting at the University of Michigan Hospital…helping my wife through her latest chemotherapy treatment. A comfort care worker just stopped by…and handed my wife one of your neck pillows. She is now sleeping comfortably with the pillow…it allowed her to relax and fall sound asleep quickly. I just want your team to know how helpful your efforts are…and how much I appreciate your generous help. Thanks!!!
