About Knit Michigan
Since 2007, Knit Michigan, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity, has been dedicated to supporting cancer patients by making, collecting, and donating comfort items such as chemo caps, Knitted Knockers, assorted pillows, and lap blankets to cancer patients throughout Michigan. Knit Michigan fills a need in the Michigan fiber-arts community where people can band together to work toward a common cause that has touched so many of our lives. It provides an opportunity to give back and make a difference while doing something we love – creating and providing better situations for those we care about who are dealing with cancer.
Knit Michigan’s Impact
Beginning in 2007, Knit Michigan has made a wonderful impact. We held nine annual “The Event” gatherings, reaching hundreds of knitters, crocheters, and sewists who learned how they could give the gifts of love and caring. More than one-quarter million dollars have been raised to support selected cancer-serving organizations throughout the state. Additionally, with the help of many dedicated volunteers, more than 20,000 comfort items have been created. This includes cancer caps, Knitted Knockers, pillows, and lap blankets (for use in the infusion rooms). These items have been sent to over 60+ cancer centers throughout the state.
